LAUNCH OF “ENERGY AND GEOSTRATEGY 2022”

The event was attended by Antonio Brufau, Chairman of Repsol; Iñigo Díaz de Espada, Chair of CECME; María Victoria Zingoni, President of ENERCLUB, and Juan Francisco Martínez, Admiral and Secretary General for Defence Policy, Ministry of Defence.

In addition, the main issues of world geopolitics were debated with the participation of Víctor Baz, Deputy Director of International Relations at Repsol, and Francisco José Dacoba, Brigadier General and Director of the IEEE

LAUNCH OF “ENERGY AND GEOSTRATEGY 2021”

The digital event, counted on the interventions of Antonio Brufau, President of Repsol; Iñigo Díaz de Espada, Chairman of CECME; María Victoria Zingoni, Chairman of Enerclub; and Juan Francisco Martínez, Admiral and Secretary General for Defense Policy, Ministry of Defense.

The event included a discussion on the main issues of Geopolitics in the world with the participation of Francisco José Dacoba, Brigadier General and Director of the IEEE, and Víctor Baz, Deputy Director of International Relations of Repsol.

The event, attended by more than 400 professionals from energy and defence sectors, counted on the interventions of Antonio Brufau, President of Repsol; Miguel Antoñanzas, Chairman of Enerclub; Iñigo Díaz de Espada, Chairman of CECME; and Rafael Sánchez Ortega, Lieutenant General and Director of the Higher Center for National Defense Studies (CESEDEN).

These topics were debated by a panel where the authors and its moderator, Claudio Aranzadi, the ex-Minister for Industry, intervened.

The day ended with a round table discussion with Claudio Aranzadi, Francisco José Dacoba, Brigadier General and Director of the Spanish Institute for Strategic Studies (IEEE), and Marta Camacho, Director of Institutional Relations for Spain and Europe at Repsol

The event, attended by 400 professionals from energy and defence sectors, counted on the interventions of Arturo Gonzalo (Chair, CECME), Miguel Ángel Ballesteros (General Director, IEEE), Antonio Brufau (Chairman, Repsol), and the Minister of Defence, Dolores de Cospedal.

The chapters of this fourth edition were:

  • Renewable Energies and the Renewal of Geopolitics
  • The US energy policy and its geostrategic implications
  • Energy and Geopolitics in Latin America
  • Energy geopolitics in the Mediterranean
  • Rivalry between Iran and Saudi Arabia in the geostrategic context of energy

LAUNCH OF “ENERGY AND GEOSTRATEGY 2016”

The event, attended by 400 professionals from energy and defence sector, was inaugurated by the Chief of Staff, General Admiral Fernando García Sánchez. Antonio Brufau, Repsol’s Chairman; Pedro Miró, Enerclub’s Chairman, and the General Miguel Ángel Ballesteros, Director of the Spanish Institute for Strategic Studies, along with Arturo Gonzalo, CECME’s Chairman, also participated at the Opening Session of the event.

The excellent responses to the first and second editions in 2014 and 2015 respectively, have underpinned this fruitful cooperation as a benchmark in the sector, contributing to assess the evolvement of the geopolitical context, which is revealed as a core element to understand the current energy scenario. The contents of this third edition are the following:

  • The Impact of Jihadism on the Energy Sector.
  • Liquefied Natural Gas as a geopolitical factor (LNG).
  • Naval control of the Energy Maritime Routes.
  • Oil and Gas Prices and World Geopolitics.
  • A new trilemma: water, food and energy.

These topics have been debated by a panel where the authors and its moderator, Claudio Aranzadi, the ex-Minister for Industry, intervened.

Moreover, a Session for Final Comments was held at the end of the event, where Marta Camacho, Secretary General of CECME; General Miguel Ángel Ballesteros, and Claudio Aranzadi intervened.

2015

LAUNCH OF “ENERGY AND GEOSTRATEGY 2015”

Arturo Gonzalo, Pedro Miró and Antonio Brufau, the presidents, respectively, of CECME, Enerclub and Repsol, as well as the Director of IEEE, Artillery Brigadier-General Miguel Ángel Ballesteros, took part in the Opening Session.

During the event, relevant aspects of the current energy agenda were analyzed from a geopolitical perspective. The discussed issues were the influence of Russia on European energy security, the effect of the conflicts in the Middle East on the energy industry, the prospects for nuclear energy, the universal access to electricity and its role against poverty and the activity of the energy industry in the Arctic.

These subjects were evaluated in a panel discussion among the authors of the study and the moderator, former Minister for Industry, Claudio Aranzadi. The event also included some final remarks by Miguel Ángel Ballesteros, Brigadier-General of Artillery, Arturo Gonzalo and Claudio Aranzadi.

2014

LAUNCH OF “ENERGY AND GEOESTRATEGY 2014”

The event took place in the Campus Repsol auditorium. It was officially inaugurated by Antonio Brufau, Arturo Gonzalo and Rafael Villaseca, Presidents of Repsol, CECME and Enerclub, respectively. It was also honoured by the participation of General Miguel Ángel Ballesteros, Director of IEEE, and the Spanish Minister of Defense, Pedro Morenés.

Afterwards, a panel discussion among certain book’s authors and the former Minister for Industry, Claudio Aranzadi, was developed, dealing with the some of the subjects analyzed in the publication: the security of supply as a strategic factor for Spain and the EU; cybersecurity and its influence on the energy sector; and the geopolitical impact of the development of unconventional hydrocarbons.
