ANNUAL EVENT “PERSPECTIVES ON THE ENERGY TRANSITION IN THE IBERIAN PENINSULA”
The 2025 edition of the Annual Conference of the Spanish Committee of the World Energy Council (CECME), entitled “Perspectives on the Energy Transition in the Iberian Peninsula,” took place on October 9 in Madrid. It was organized by CECME and the Spanish Energy Club and sponsored by Edp.
The programme included an opening session with the participation of Pedro Vasconcelos, president of CECME, vice president of Enerclub, and CEO of Edp Spain; a following session focused on the Iberian Peninsula and the challenges of European integration with Daniel Calleja, director general of the European Commission’s Legal Service; and a dialogue session between Pedro Vaconcelos and Ilke Toygür, director of the IE Global Policy Center and professor of European Geopolitics at IE University, where they analyzed the geopolitics and perspectives of the energy transition in a changing world, as well as the role of Europe.
Two round tables were also held, dedicated to addressing key issues of the energy transition in the Peninsula and commenting on the external view of the Iberian Peninsula.
We also had the opportunity to hear representatives in Spain and Portugal of Future Energy Leaders (FEL), from the World Energy Council at a Youth Session where they conducted a joint analysis of the role of the Peninsula in the energy transition using the tools World Energy Trilemma 2024 y World Energy Issues Monitor 2025.
Finally, CECME member companies BP, EDP, Enagas, Endesa, Iberdrola, Moeve, Naturgy, Repsol and Sedigas shared recommendations though a video to strengthen collaboration between Spain and Portugal and maximise opportunities to turn the Iberian Peninsula into the desired green industry hub.
