ANNUAL EVENT “ENERGY AND CLIMATE FUTURES. NEW EU POLITICAL CYCLE”

The 2024 edition of the Annual event of the Spanish Committee of the World Energy Council (CECME), entitled “ENERGY AND CLIMATE FUTURES. NEW EU POLITICAL CYCLE“,took place on November 8th in Madrid in a face-to-face format

It was organised by CECME and the Spanish Energy Club (ENERCLUB), with the sponsorship of MOEVE and EDP and the collaboration of the Elcano Royal Institute.

During the different sessions, the energy and climate challenges of the new EU policy cycle were addressed. Among them, reconciling the implementation of the European Green Pact with new demands to strengthen competitiveness, the just transition, the expansion of industrial capacities, the energy decoupling from Russia and minimising the possible risks derived from trade tensions between countries such as China and the United States.  Once again, this year, the focus was also placed on the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), held from 11 to 22 November 2024 in Baku (Azerbaijan). 

The programme included interventions from Carmen de Pablo, Chief Financial Officer,  Moeve; José Juan Ruiz, Chairman, the Elcano Royal Institute; Pedro Vasconcelos, Chair, Spanish Committee of World Energy Council and Deputy Vice-President, Spanish Energy Club;  Cristina Lobillo, Director, Energy Platform Task Force (EPTF) EUROPEAN COMMISSION; Adair Turner, Chair, Energy Transitions Commission UK (ETC), y H.E. Ms. Nigar Arpadarai, UN Climate Change High Level Champion for COP29, together with other representatives and experts from various institutions and organisations.
